Attack Pattern Archetypes & Avoidance Rules
DELTARUNE danmaku generally falls into four mathematical trajectories. Recognizing the pattern instantly dictates where you should park your soul.
Concentric Spirals (Spades & Scythes)
Seen on: Jevil, King
Bullets spawn in a pinwheel from a central origin and accelerate outward.
Vertical Oscillators (Carousel & Acid Droplets)
Seen on: Jevil Carousel, Queen Acid Drops
Columns of hazards move horizontally across the box while undulating up and down.
Explosive Clusters (Pipis & Heart Bombs)
Seen on: Spamton NEO
Primary projectiles drift slowly, then burst violently into 4–8 directional shards.
Telegraphed Reticles & Slashes
Seen on: Queen Lasers, Tasque Manager, The Knight
Lanes flash red or show tracking lines 0.5–1.0s before the deadly hitbox activates.
Universal Dodging & Graze Tips
Understanding the "True Hitbox"
The visible Red Soul sprite in DELTARUNE is approximately 16x16 pixels, but the lethal hurtbox is only a tiny 4x4 pixel point at the exact center. You can clip bullet edges through your soul's outer rim without taking a single point of damage!
Graze TP Farming Loops
Grazing bullets with your soul's aura fills your Tension Point (TP) meter. Two good grazes award enough TP to cast Ralsei's Heal Prayer or Susie's Rude Buster a turn early. Always skim the edges of slow projectiles during early battle phases.
Never Hold Arrow Keys
The #1 cause of death in secret boss fights is overshooting. Tap arrow keys gently rather than holding them down. In dense storms, micro-tapping moves your soul by single pixels, keeping you inside narrow gaps.
Corner Traps Are Fatal
Dodging into a corner of the bullet box severely restricts your movement options to only 1 direction. Whenever possible, reset your soul toward the lower center lane (bottom 25% of the box) between bullet waves.
ACT (Pacifist) vs FIGHT (Violence) Comparison
Every secret boss in DELTARUNE offers two mutually exclusive equipment rewards upon defeat.
| Boss | 🕊️ ACT Route (Mercy) | ⚔ FIGHT Route (Violent) | Community Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jevil | Jevilstail (Armor) +2 ATK, +2 DEF, +2 Magic. Equipable by anyone. | Devilsknife (Weapon) +5 ATK, +4 Magic, -10% TP cost for Rude Buster (Susie only). | ACT Route (Jevilstail): Outstanding universal defensive and magical armor that remains top-tier through later chapters. |
| Spamton NEO | Dealmaker (Armor) +5 DEF, +5 Magic, +30% Gold bonus in all battles. | Puppet Scarf (Weapon) +8 ATK, +6 Magic (Ralsei only, turns Ralsei into an attacker). | ACT Route (Dealmaker): +5 DEF and massive gold generation make Dealmaker arguably the best armor in Chapter 2. |
